2016 Denver Rose Show Schedule
For almost seventy years the Denver Rose Society has held an annual rose show each summer. Everyone is welcome to enter their roses; you do not need to be a member of the society to participate. There are horticulture and arrangement classes for juniors, novices and seasoned exhibitors. In the horticulture classes, the exhibitor (person entering their rose) must have grown the rose in their own garden. Categories include hybrid tea, floribunda, rose art, arrangements and, becoming one of the most popular – photography. Whether you want to exhibit a bowl of roses to a single stem hybrid tea rose or a theme-based traditional, modern or oriental arrangement, there’s a category for you. There is always a Best of Show along with designation of American Rose Society (ARS) Queen, King, Princess and Court award among the various rose types.
Roses are judged using a scale of points totaling one hundred and include rose form, color, substance, stem and foliage, size, balance and proportion. Additional information about each of these qualities is outlined in the show schedule.
The theme of the annual show changes from year to year. The theme for 2016 is “Roses from the Heart.” Be sure to view the special theme-related instructions for exhibiting rose arrangements.
Entries are accepted from 8:00 am – 9:30 am the morning of the show. The show preparation time in Gates Hall begins at 6:30 am. Bring your best cut roses to the Gates Hall area of Denver Botanic Gardens. Experienced rosarians will be on hand to assist new exhibitors. Vases will be provided. Read more about exhibiting your roses here – Exhibiting your Roses. Judging by certified American Rose Society rose judges takes place from 10:00 am to 12:30 pm. The public is invited to view the entries and winners between 1:00 pm – 4:30 pm.
