How to Deal with Rose Diseases “Virtual Meeting”

May 11 @ 7:00 pm - 9:00 pm

Featured speaker

Dr. Mark Windham

Development of Management Plans for Diseases and Abiotic Stresses Affecting Roses Along the Front Range

Dr Windham will be joining us at our May 11th meeting from Tennessee via teleconference. This will be an excellent presentation. We all want healthy and happy plants and we’re going big on education with this one. We will investigate how to identify plant health issues within rose gardens of the front range and how to develop management plans for successfully growing healthy roses. During the lecture he will discuss foliar and root diseases that may plague our roses and how to recognize abiotic stresses (climate issues, nutrient deficiencies and toxicities, and genetic dysfunctions) that may limit success in our gardens. Stay tuned for more on this meeting. It will be via teleconference only.

Mark Windham is an emeritus professor in the Department of Entomology and Plant Pathology at the University of Tennessee.  His research focused on diseases of dogwoods, hydrangeas and roses.   Before joining the faculty at UT, Mark was a visiting assistant professor at Colorado State University. Though retired, Mark is still active in a research project with scientists from Texas A&M, Univ. of Minnesota, Oklahoma State, Univ. of Tulsa, Univ., of Georgia, Ohio State, Univ. of Wisconsin River Falls, and USDA ARS.  The goal of this project is to develop sustainable roses with good bloom characters that are resistant to black spot and rose rosette disease.  Mark is a member of American Rose Society and a past president of the Holston Rose Society. When not dealing with his 3,000+ research roses, Mark and his wife Karen enjoy walking on beaches, taking road trips, playing with their grandchildren (and cats and English bulldog), and gardening.
