COME SMELL THE ROSES
Pikes Peak Rose Society is hosting a three-day District Show. Of course, it’s a three-day show because it’s a District Show.
Please attend for an amazing time where you can sit around and talk about roses with your rose friends. Pikes Peak Rose
Society members are pretty “Colorado Casual,” but we can’t wait to show off our gardens and our roses. Please bring
your roses to the show!
Were you crushed that Colorado Springs canceled the National Rose Show in 2020? We were. The mountains are the
same – Colorado Springs is home to the same Pikes Peak and Garden of the Gods. The Crew of Pikes Peak Rose Society is
up to the same warm hospitality. This means, we serve snacks all day and host with continental breakfast, box lunch,
and light evening appetizers. Enjoy the fun that our show, “Peaks to Prairies”, can bring.
June 17th
– Day One is the Taco Bar at the home of Denny Husk from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM.
Explore the gorgeous mansion on the historic north side (our show site). Walk about the mansion named Peel House in
Colorado’s historic north side and imagine the formal balls. The show will be set in both the ballroom as well as the formal
dining room.
June 18th – Day Two is packed with the Rocky Mountain District Rose Show and the Silent Auction and followed by the District
meeting at 5 PM. Rumor has it that Bug man, Baldo Villegas, might give a Consulting Rosarian lecture in the afternoon.
Baldo’s national caliber speeches are only topped by his knowledge.
And of course – the gift bag (you are at the District Show, after all), breakfast, and box lunch. The first 34 folks who go to
the Registration table get a HOT PAPRIKA rose. All this sensory overload followed by a Silent Auction. Some of the roses
to be auctioned are several of the hybridizer David Bang’s roses. It is rumored that other “hard to get roses” – all grafted
on rosa multiflora will be auctioned. Appetizers, including shrimp, turkey roll, etc., and light drinks AND Denny Husk’s
famed chocolate brownies with ice cream will be served at the District Meeting.
June 19th – Day Three is an open show from 8:00 AM to 1:00 PM and two garden tours(because thisis a districtshow). And
off course, the gardens are, one featured in the Fox Garden Tour, as well as a garden nearby the famed Broadmoorarea.
For a small fee of Twenty dollarsfor registration, all thisis yours! It was said that a Rose Society of under 100 folks couldn’t
create a District Show. Thanks to the loyalty of our mutual interest in growing America’s favorite flower, we have had the
help of nearby Denver Rose Society and Riverwalk Rose Society. Thanks, are inadequate.
Of special note are the schedule writers (Sheldon Drobot-Horticulture) and Carol Macon (Arrangements). Without the
careful editing of Collette Morton (District Arrangement Chair) and Joe Muzy (District Horticulture Chair), this schedule,
dedicated to our beloved Dwight Jensen would not have happened.
Come to enjoy the festivities on Friday, June 17th, Saturday June 18th, and Sunday, June 19th!
CELEBRATE!
